Welcome! Light for the entrance

Light in the entrance area and at the front door is doubly important: it has an inviting effect and provides security. So light protects not only from tripping hazards, but also from uninvited guests.

FRONT DOOR LIGHTING FOR A FRIENDLY WELCOME

Standing at the front door in the dark is not much fun – neither for guests nor for residents. Proper front door lighting is therefore essential. It has a friendly effect and helps to orientate. There are numerous suitable lights in diverse designs, ranging from historical-looking to the clear, linear form. Light in the entrance area and at the front door is doubly important: it has an inviting effect and provides security. So light protects not only from tripping hazards, but also from uninvited guests.

IMPORTANT: SAFE LUMINAIRES FOR OUTDOOR USE

Wall lights are recommended for front doors without a canopy. Alternatively, pole lights up to two meters high can be placed directly at the front door. If a canopy is available, recessed or surface-mounted luminaires can be integrated into it. Multiple lights form a pretty starry sky. No matter which lighting solution is chosen, care must be taken to ensure that the luminaires are suitable for outdoor use. Recognizable by the fact that they are marked with at least IP 44 protection. This means they are protected against solid foreign bodies up to one millimeter and against water spray. If the luminaires are permanently exposed to the weather, the luminaires should be used IP65 or higher. More about IP protection here in our overview.

If the light at the front door is to be on for a long time, resp. remain permanently switched on, a twilight switch is recommended. This automatically turns on the light at nightfall. Motion detectors make light on demand and provide safety in dark and hard-to-see areas. Small spotlights and spotlights are particularly suitable here.
